Scary Halloween Haunted House Decorations
Everyone loves a scary haunted house and with Halloween just around the corner, now is the time to make your plans and gather your props and decorations. Decide where to build your haunted house scenario and get all the elements right. Think about what makes a haunted house truly scary?
First of all think, about the lighting. Haunted houses are dark and creepy. In the movies, the lighting is usually from flickering candles or old fashioned oil lamps. Keep your lighting low to achieve the right mood – this will create shadows and make everything seem gloomy and eerie. You can also experiment with black lights, strobe lights and other lighting options to achieve just the right effect. Electric flickering candles can also provide a nice touch.
The next part of setting the proper mood for your Halloween haunted house, is the background sound effect. There are many great Halloween CDs available on the market, which can add a variety of creepy sounds or music and enhance your haunted house decor. The sounds of muffled chains, witches cackles and moaning can contibute alot to your haunted house fear factor. Remember, setting the proper mood is vitally important in raising the overall anxiety level, if done right, your visitors will begin to imagine things that aren’t even there!
So, at this point you’ve raised the expectation and anxiety level to where other props and decorations can be fully appreciated and introduced. Be subtle here and don’t over do things. 2 or 3 good props, well planned and placed and perhaps unexpected, are far more effective in frightening your guests. A ghost that suddenly pops -out of a doorway, or a demon emerging slowly to view from a dark corner are often far scarier due to anticipation.
There are hundreds of great haunted house props available commercially, from severed arms and heads, to full size apparitions and cadavers. There are classic characters such as witches and ghosts, as well as vampires, zombies and all your favorite movie slashers. You can also make many of your own Halloween haunted house decorations and props and I’ve included some useful links for those who wish to check them out.
Now is the time to get busy and plan your Halloween haunted house decorations. Chose a theme, for example “Nightmare on Elm St”or a paranormal site needing the help of TVs “Ghost Hunters.” You can not only create your own thrilling haunted house version for Halloween, but have a blast putting it together with your family or friends and just think how cool it will be on Halloween when you can invite visitors over and give them a real thrill!
